Community Markets Food Box Giveaway

Community Markets Food Box Giveaways provide fresh and local food to food insecure families in Jefferson County, WV and the surrounding region. One Giveaway is held every few months at Saint James Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV.
All cash donations are used to buy food from local farmers. Donations of shelf-stable food or gift cards to local grocery stores are welcome. See Upcoming Events for volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers are needed at each Food Box Giveaway for a number of tasks including:

Pick up food and cardboard boxes, Break down larger quantities of food into family-sized portions,
Move donated food from storage to Giveaway location, Sort food into boxes, Load boxes into cars

Our Impact – Past Events

The inaugural Community Markets Food Box Giveaway was held in September 2022 at Saint James the Greater Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV. The program has grown to serve hungry Appalachian families in 10 counties in West Virginia. Here is some of CMI and our partners’ impact:

  • Partners include Saint James Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry Job Corps, and Priestfield Pastoral Center
  • Sept 22 Giveaway: Received Six (6) pallets of Fresh Produce from First Fruits Farm
  • Purchased Local Food from Four (4) Local Food Businesses; Food Sourced from WV and PA Farmers
  • Supported Three (3) Local Businesses
  • Jan 23 Giveaway: City National Bank Ranson Collected Food in their Lobby
  • Jan 23 Giveaway: Chick-fil-A Ranson provided Hot Breakfast for Volunteers
  • Jan 23 Giveaway: Orr’s Farm Market Donated Ten (10) Bushels of Apples
